To be able to make a cake using the same dictum seemed beyond the pale. But my mom had convinced me it could be done. We used to make this cake a lot when i was a kid. I always loved it !
Since we don’t get much exercise these days owing to the owing to our lifestyles, I make sure that we stick to the formula of “Taste and Health”. This fits right into that box. This cake is eggless, fat free and contains no refined flours.

Rava | Semolina Cake
I use dried cranberries. However one can use almost any kind of dry fruits to make it interesting for themselves. This recipe is so easy almost anyone can bake this cake.
Ingredients
- 2 cups rava|semolina
- 1 cup curd
- 1.5 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
- 1 cup milk
- 1.5 cups sugar
- 1/2 cup dried cranberries
- 1/2 sliced almonds.
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 kilo salt. ( The quantity is correct. You can reuse the salt later)
Directions
- Step 1 Start by preheating the cooker. Put a stand into it and put the salt into it.
- Step 2 Let it heat for a while. Keep the flame high. Keep the top closed but not sealed. Meanwhile lets prepare the cake mix.
- Step 3 Blend milk, sugar and ghee in a mixer until it has a smooth texture.
- Step 4 Transfer the items into a bowl and add the curd. Mix Well.
- Step 5 Add the Rava, vanilla extract and baking soda. Mix Well.
- Step 6 Add the dry fruits. Mix Well.Make sure the final mixture is not too watery. Else the cake will not hold together.
- Step 7 Make sure the cake pan has butter paper at bottom to avoid sticking.
- Step 8 Put some dry fruits into the cake-pan.
- Step 9 Pour the Rava mixture into the cake tin on top of the dry fruits.
- Step 10 Sprinkle some dry fruits on top as well. That way you will have dry fruits all over the cake.
- Step 11 Bake in the preheated pressure cooker for an hour on a medium flame.
- Step 12 Switch off the flame. Open the cooker and leave it to cool.
- Step 13 Once it cools, use a knife to separate the cake from the edges of the cake pan.
- Step 14 Invert the pan into a plate. Gently pull the pan out.

Tips
The cake has a nice golden texture owing to the roasted Rava/Semolina. I personally like using dry fruits in my cake. They add a distinct flavor. However, they are not mandatory. I use dried cranberries. However one can use almost any kind of dry fruits to make it interesting for themselves.
You can have this as a light tea time snack or as dessert. If you wish to have it as dessert then just make the cake sweeter. In my case i have kept the sugar a bit on the lower side. Needless to mention kids just love this cake.
